Health, Safety and Security

Although a lot of accommodation providers in Newquay are very professional, it is difficult to describe some of the things we came across when we were looking to set up our business down here.

We understand that as discerning people you will do your research, so here are a few things to bear in mind:

Our Accommodation - Safety:

  • Doesn't "mix rooms" ie we will not put strangers in your apartment to make up the numbers.
  • Meets the 5* Quality in Tourism standards in all but one criteria. (Please see note below).
  • Complies to Full Planning Permissions and Regulations.
  • Complies to Building Regulations.
  • Complies with Fire Regulations and has an excellent rapport with Fire department.
  • Has full maintainence agreement for Alarm System.
  • Has Landlord's Gas Safety Certificate. 

Our Accommodation - Security:

  • Everone in the group has their own key
  • Main entrance to premises has key coded entry system
  • State of the art CCTV system with night vision, Police approved quality, placed internally and externally in communal areas (not in apartments - for privacy reasons), with remote access. Both hard and soft copy recording complying with Data Protection Act.
  • Emergency 24/7 contact number given to all guests and duplicated on their key fobs.
  • No nonsense attitude to ANYTHING that may compromise the safety or security of our guests. 

 

Note: We cannot be awarded the Quality in Tourism award due to the inflexible nature of their criteria. They will not consider giving any rating to us as we do not provide a two ring hob. We have discussed with our Fire Officers about having electric 2 ring hobs in the Apartments and were advised that we should not provide them for the safety of our guests. Due to this we cannot be awarded a star rating in any of the categories even though, according to their literature we would attain a 5* award in all other respects. Therefore we also cannot advertise in the Newquay Guide (along with a high percentage of other accommodation providers) or be involved in the Visit Britain and Visit Cornwall campaigns.  We would also like to point out that advertising in the Newquay Guide, especially with only a Pending Rating is no guarantee of quality. We would like to point out once again that most accommodation providers in Newquay, run and operate very professional businesses. The situation of the Quality in Tourism, Visit Britain and Visit Newquay campaigns, and their high associated inclusion costs has caused a large amount of ongoing controversy and consternation amongst the quality accommodation providers in Newquay.

As our guests' health, safety and security is more important to us than attaining a star rating, we have chosen not to pursue this.

We hope you understand that we put your interests, safety and security above our advertising needs.

We would also like to confirm that The Quality in Tousim scheme, Visit Britain and Visit Newquay are a separate entity to Newquay Tourist Information Centre.

Further to the above, we recevied a note this morning (16/01/07) from a group of girls who stayed with us, for the first time over the New Year: They write, and we quote:

"We have been to Newquay many times and this is the best place ever! We Will stay there every time if Poss!!" - From Claire P, Heath, Cardiff.
